H.O.R.S.E Poker

November 20, 2008

When you play H.O.R.S.E poker you will notice not every player is good at every game. I have noticed that Razz tends to be the “weak game” for a lot of players. Every table is different though so you must analyze your opponents play and find any weaknesses. This is an essential strategy you can use to dominate the HORSE poker tables. Since the HORSE poker crowd tends to be small you with usually end up playing the same players over and over again. This is why it is essential to find and note any weaknesses in your opponents.

Finding their weaknesses is the easy part, figuring out how to adjust your own play to take advantage those weaknesses is the hard part. You have to be very flexible when you play HORSE. The general feel of the table will likely change every 10 hands with the game. During the Texas Holdem games you might be facing a bunch of loose aggressive players and then during Omaha Hi-Lo you might be facing a bunch of tight aggressive players.

To do well in HORSE you have to be good at every game. If you have a “weak game” the other players will pick up on it just as you are picking up on their weaknesses. If you are uncomfortable with the principles of one of the games you should read up on it and play at the small stakes tables until you have it down. There is a lot of money to be won at the HORSE tables but you have to be a well rounded player to win. This holds true for all mixed poker games.

If you are interested in playing H.O.R.S.E poker you practice on the play money tables first. Pokerstars, which is one of the best poker rooms for H.O.R.S.E poker offers a wide variety of play money and real money action. This is an excellent way to work out any kinks before you risk any money at the tables.

7 Card Stud

November 20, 2008

Seven card stud is the 3rd most popular poker game played online. Just about every online poker room offers it but the traffic is pretty low at most rooms. 7 card stud comes in 3 different variations. The first is just seven card stud, the high hand wins. You can also play the lowball version which is called hi-lo or 8 or better which is a split pot game much like Omaha hi-lo. The last version is Razz poker, which is lowball only 7 card stud.

The seven card stud rules are quite simple. Each player will place an ante and the dealer will deal everyone two down cards and one up card. The betting will start with whoever has the lowest up card and then will continue around the table just like in Holdem. Once this round of betting is complete the dealer will deal another up card. This will continue until each player has four up cards. The 7th card will be dealt face down and one last round of betting will occur. Whoever has the best five card hand will win the pot.

Finding a room that has a lot of 7 card stud action can be a little tricky. Many rooms offer it but only a few can offer more than 1-2 active real money tables around the clock. Pokerstars averages around 500 players at the standard stud tables alone. This is why they are ranked as the best room for 7 card stud. You will find plenty of action at a couple other rooms but nowhere near what Stars offers.
